How to Banish Redness for Good

It’s that time of year again where you may see someone who clearly spent too much time in the sun. Their bright red skin is an indicator of a day outdoors — and a lack of sun protection.

At least, that’s often the case. But if you deal with chronic facial redness, with or without sun exposure, you’re probably tired of looking inflamed, and as if you don’t use sun protection.

Fortunately, here at our offices on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City and Madison, CT we can evaluate what factors may be contributing to your chronic redness. Our team can assess your level of reactivity, diet, lifestyle and product use and offer suggestions that may help improve the health and appearance of your skin.  Norman J. Pastorek, MD, Janice Pastorek, BSN, RN, and our team offer some specific laser treatments like Laser Genesis and Excel V to treat redness and leave you looking your best.

Laser treatment for redness

Laser treatment can be highly effective for rosacea, but you don’t need to have that skin condition to benefit from lasers.

Studies have begun to evaluate how lasers work for permanent facial redness. Some recent ones found that most people see at least a 20% reduction in redness with laser treatment, while some people saw an even more dramatic improvement. Here at our offices, we can tailor treatment to you. With repeat laser sessions as needed, we can help you move your skin toward your desired condition.

Laser treatment works for redness because the laser’s energy causes your blood vessels to constrict. When the red blood vessels nearest your skin get smaller — or sometimes, disappear entirely — it minimizes or removes the root cause of redness.

Your laser options

We offer two types of laser treatment to target redness: Laser Genesis and Excel V.

Laser Genesis

This specialized near-infrared (NIR) Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser treats your skin on a cellular level, sending its therapeutic energy into your skin to drive transformation. It reduces redness while improving your skin’s texture, leaving you with a more even complexion. Fine lines, skin tone, acne scars, and enlarged pores all benefit from this laser treatment.

Laser Genesis is safe for all skin types and comes with minimal downtime. You might experience some added redness immediately after treatment, but it should fade quickly.

Most of our patients see the best results with 3 to 6 treatments spaced a month apart if used by itself.  It may be combined with other modalities to achieve improvement with fewer treatments.

Excel V

With Excel V, we can use multiple laser wavelengths. This allows us to target both vascular issues (the visible blood vessels contributing to your redness) and any pigmentation irregularities that further contribute to your uneven skin tone.

We tailor your Excel V treatment to your needs. Most patients benefit from multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart.

You don’t need to worry about downtime with this laser treatment. While you may have some redness or warmth immediately after treatment, that usually dissipates rapidly.

Our  multidimensional approach combining lasers, topical preparations, along with Frequency Specific Microcurrent (an effective  energy tool that is painless), may improve the overall health and condition of your skin. Our team can help you determine which combination is best for you. To get started on a path to better skin with less redness, call either of our offices or book your appointment online today.
