If you’re investing in yourself by getting a neuromodulator treatment like Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin®, you want it to last as long as possible. These three tips can help.

Neuromodulators are powerful tools if you want to look your best through the years. By temporary relaxing muscles into which they’re injected, they smooth the skin above it. This makes them effective for everything from forehead and frown lines to crow’s feet and neck bands.

That’s why Norman J. Pastorek, MD, Janice Pastorek, and our team offer neuromodulators at our offices. Visit us on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City or in Madison, Connecticut, and we can explore what options like Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport® can do for you.

We don’t stop there, either. So you can enjoy your results for as long as possible, we offer guidance. Here are three tips from our team to prolong the effects of neuromodulators.

1. Follow aftercare instructions

Usually, the results from these injectables last a few months. What you do immediately after treatment can impact that timeline.

We give you written aftercare instructions so you have a guide to follow. Make sure you adhere to it. Those instructions recommend against massaging your face, for example. That massage could distribute the neuromodulator to unwanted destinations or spread it out so that you don’t see notable results.

Similarly, a hot bath, using a sauna, or even a hot shower can cause vasodilation, which increases blood flood. This can affect your results, so steer clear of these types of heat for several hours afterward.

In short, we’ve designed our aftercare instructions to help you get the results you want from your neuromodulator and to help those results last as long as possible. Following them precisely goes a long way here.

2. Get regular maintenance

Our team can help you develop a treatment plan to maintain your results over time. Usually, when people get regular maintenance treatments, it helps the neuromodulator last longer. On top of that, these maintenance treatments often mean we need to use less product over time.

3. Consider taking zinc

Botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in neuromodulators, requires zinc to work. Study results suggest that taking a zinc supplement may help these injectables perform their best, month after month.

In fact, a review of two studies reported that with zinc supplementation, people saw the duration of the effectiveness of the botulinum toxin go up by about 30%.

If you want to take zinc, be sure to discuss it with us first for a recommendation on the type and dose.

These are a few general suggestions. We may also have personalized recommendations for you based on your skin and your lifestyle. To get younger-looking skin and support in prolonging your neuromodulator results, call either of our offices or book your appointment online today.
