About The Surgery

About 14 days prior to the surgical date the patient receives a preoperative package. This contains all necessary information about getting ready for surgery, medical evaluation, medical testing, prescriptions, hospital information, and postoperative care. This important detailed communication is critical for the smooth course before, during and after the procedure.

All aesthetic facial plastic surgery is performed in an outpatient setting. Some cases can be done as an office procedure. Many are performed in the outpatient division of the New York Presbyterian Hospital or the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. Both hospitals are on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and are highly experienced in outpatient surgery. At both hospitals Dr. Pastorek works with nurses and other doctors that have been helping him in most cases for many years. While surgical assistance is important in these delicate procedures, only Dr. Pastorek does the surgery, including every suture and the final bandage. At both hospitals the staff knows that his Operating Room is the peaceful and quiet one. He wants everyone in the room focused on the surgery. He does not allow any conversation that is not related to the surgery. The music that he uses as adjunctive to the anesthesia is soothing and calming to everyone. Dr. Pastorek wrote the initial scientific article in a peered reviewed medical journal about the benefit of music for outpatient surgery.

Residents of New York and those patients who live within one to one and a half hours of Dr.Pastorek's office can return to home following discharge from the outpatient recovery area. Those patients who are from out of state or live a great distance from New York may want to spend a night at the facilities across the street from either hospital. These are studio or one bedroom apartments with kitchens; the Helmsley Medical Tower across from New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Lyden Gardens Apartment Hotel across from the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Information about these facilities is available through the office. Patients may choose to stay at another hotel in the area. We can provide a list. Dr. Pastorek has a panel of nurses available for patients who may be coming alone to New York or would like some assistance with the post op care. Almost all postop care whether at home or in the post op facilities can be done by a willing spouse, friend, or relative. Our office will provide the detailed information about the post op care. The hospital out patient recovery room provides any supplies needed for post-op care. Our office is always available if the need arises day or night.
